The Alaknanda Ghaati Shilpi Federation (Aagaas Federation) was founded in 2002 to work for the socio-economic development of rural mountain communities in Uttarakhand. It was incorporated in 2004 under the Societies Registration Act, XXI, 1860.

Earth Charter International, Earth Charter Youth Group, and SAYEN Asia are all linked with the organisation. In 2005, the World Bank presented it with a Recognition Award in Washington, D.C.

Through a variety of new programmes, the group is committed to creating jobs for rural kids in mountain communities.

Support those that make natural resource-based crafts, such as hill bamboo (Ringaal) basketry, natural fibre-based eco-fabrics, and so on ( Himalayan Nettle and industrial Hemp)

Support rural ventures with technical and marketing assistance.

Work with individuals and Self-Help Groups to promote organic farming, fruit processing, medicinal plant production, and education.

With this project, they wish to combat deforestation by running a plantation drive to bring back the luscious green glory of the great Himalayan mountains. Which have been stripped naked in the past few decades.
